Eroded Memories

I live with weathered trash
Inhabiting this insular purgatory

Waves lap upon the shore
They carry discarded objects

Legos worn down by the sand
Don’t fit together anymore

But some retain a rough shape
Despite their round edges

What could they have been
Had they not washed up here

Meant to be an airplane
They lie scattered on the beach

I’m a foreigner here
I never lived near the sea

But one day I woke up
On this remote isle

I forget how it happened
Or how long it’s been

I wait as an eroded Lego
We’re worn down together
